BREATHWORK
Breathwork is the next modern therapeutic trend, resurging from ancient healing practices. Breathwork is the active form of consciously working your breath to bypass the mind and enter a different state of awareness. When you practice, you can move beyond your body and mind, and connect with your core spirit—your Authentic Self. Tapping into the incredible power of the breath stimulates your mind-body connection, releases trauma and reduces stress.
What is Breathwork?
Essentially, breathwork is a term to describe any type of breathing exercise or technique in which you intentionally change your default breathing pattern. As a Rebirthing Practitioner, I've been specifically trained in conscious connected breathing. This means that you intentionally connect the inhale with the exhale without any pauses. Breathwork is a powerful and safe way to saturate the body with oxygen and energy, recharging our own physiological systems to work to their healing capacity.
What is a Breathwork session like?
A single breathwork session at Heart Mind Wisdom can usually be split into three parts. First, is the consultation phase (similar to a counselling session) in which we have a conversation about anything you may want or need to talk about. The second phase of the session is the breathwork, where you will lay down in a safe place and begin the breathing rhythm knows as circular connected breathing. You will be guided with the breathing pattern for approximately one hour. The third phase is integration and debrief, which involves a discussion of your experience and exercises to assist further in your healing outside of our sessions. Overall you can expect a session to be around 2 hours from start to finish.
How can Breathwork help me?
As you breathe, you will become aware of thoughts, feelings, memories, and patterns that are self-limiting or not aligned to our highest authentic self. Breathwork in many ways is more efficient than talk therapy in assisting us to enhance our emotional balance and mental wellbeing. While talking about past traumas and negative self beliefs can be beneficial to a certain degree, it doesn't release the energy that has been unconsciously residing in the body. There has been an increase in understanding about the mind-body connection showing that the mind and body are inextricably intertwined, therefore it's insufficient to approach mental health by only looking at the mind. Breathwork is the holistic solution to healing the entire being (mind, body and spirit). The benefits of breathwork are immense and people practice breathwork for a variety of reasons such as:
-
Reduce stress and anxiety levels
-
Process and heal trauma
-
Process emotions and heal emotional pain
-
Boost immunity
-
Better digestion and circulation, lower blood pressure
-
Develop or increase self-awareness/mindfulness
-

-
Addiction (eg. smoking)
-
An active alternative to meditation
